For our presenter, Barbara Dickinson, Interactive Focusing (IF) is the “way in” to learn and teach compassion and empathy in a practical, safe, structured, and effective environment and methodology.

In this Highlight, you will have an opportunity to learn about, or refresh your understanding of, the history of “Interactive Focusing” (IF), as developed by Drs. Janet Klein and Mary McGuire. Barbara will demonstrate, explain, and provide experiential exercises that will give newcomers to this practice enough to decide if you want more. You will observe a full (short) session of IF, including “Focuser as Storyteller”, “Double Empathic Moment”, and “Relationship Check”, and participate if you like in the exercise of forming an empathic essence (“Double Empathic Moment”).

In the first-year students learn the core essentials of focusing guiding and how to help their client’s ‘go inside’ to find, open, and move forward a felt sense, leading to transformation and lasting change.
In the second-year students learn how to weave the guiding they learnt in the first year seamlessly into the more fluid and improvisational style of a therapeutic conversation. In addition, we learn how to work with the ‘one interaction’ that we are together by using the felt sense of the relationship (the felt sense of the ‘I’, of the ‘You’, & of the ‘Us’) to move the interaction and the client forward. We further learn how to be ‘the interaction that makes it better’ which is the concept and practice that Eugene Gendlin talked about being the center of his work with

In the first-year students learn the core essentials of focusing guiding and how to help their client’s ‘go inside’ to find, open, and move forward a felt sense, leading to transformation and lasting change. In addition, students will start to learn how to bring focusing into that relational and faster pace dynamic of therapeutic conversations.
If students choose to they then can have the option to join a second year where they learn further how to use a more improvisational style of a therapeutic conversation. The climate is changing, why aren't we? Annette Dubreuil Jenn Wesanko Kevin Johnson
This 8-week course will create a space for individuals to come together, share and get support for their feelings about the ecological and climate crises, to create more space for new or continued courageous action.

This course welcomes those who have been working on climate action for years and those who are just beginning to feel the magnitude of this existential threat.

Climate stress is held in the body. Connecting with our bodily wisdom can help us engage with and expand beyond contracted feelings of ecological grief and anxiety and rekindle more aliveness and joy. Powered by a new sense of resiliency, we can relinquish stories of separation and find deeper connection with ourselves, nature, and community.
