Many of us have been grounded, nourished and inspired by Gendlin’s prolific writings about psychotherapy and philosophy, and the links between them. But some of his ideas, especially in the philosophical realm, have been difficult for the uninitiated to fully grasp. We are fortunate now in this technological era to have at our fingertips a new, more immediate vehicle for experiencing Gendlin’s foundational ideas—one that not only conveys the power of his words, but also brings us into a lived experience of his way of being.

In this module of our “Therapeutic Us” seminar we will engage not only with Gendlin’s groundbreaking theoretical perspective and his clinical approach, but with his unique presence, which is the embodiment of his teachings. Videos of Gendlin’s talks, demos and interviews will be assigned for each session, along with transcripts. We will watch and discuss clips of these videos together in class as a springboard for discussion.
