Our goal here is to return to the essence of Focusing and ourselves as living process. I ask that participants are Focusing weekly with a partner at least one month before class begins and throughout our time together. There is a lot of reading, often more than you might choose to do. We touch on a variety of approaches to learn and practice Focusing. My Part 4 is a great place to return to whenever you would like to go deeper with your process from wherever it is. Requires Part 3 or equivalent experience.
Meets eight times on Wednesdays, 7 – 9 pm New York time.
This online entry level Focusing skills class prepares you to begin a Focusing partnership. Utilizing Inner Relationship Focusing and Neuroscience based exercises spread out over a few months, this is a great opportunity to ground yourself in the basics of Self-in-Presence as a way of being that creates space for lasting change. You are encouraged to practice both in partnerships and with brief pauses during your day.
For coaches, bodyworkers, therapists, teachers and anyone interested in improving their inner and outer relational skills. Part 1 meets six times for two hours, usually every other week. This class can be your first step toward professional certification by completing Parts 1-4, then entering the ongoing Learning Community for Mastery in Guiding Change. Meets
Want to watch as Ann Weiser Cornell guides someone through their very first Focusing session?
Focusing can be puzzling to talk about. It can be hard to learn from a book or a video. But when someone is actually taken through the process, you get it! Be present to observe as Ann guides three first-time Focusers (one each week) - and then comment afterward. The guest Focusers are volunteers who understand that their session will be witnessed by a safe and respectful group of people.

Each day there is space for offerings, discussions and workshops, as well as relaxation and social times.
We will gather for supper at 7pm on Thursday 13 October, and meet each other informally after supper. On Friday, we can have an option for Focusing partnerships and then meet as a whole group in the meeting room. That is when we can plan our time together. Time slots for offerings could be 2 hours; more or less. It’s a gathering, not a conference, and it’s shared and created by those of us who attend. We will finish after lunch on Sunday, at 2pm. You can also arrive a couple of days earlier and leave later if you wish. Informal self-organized meetings are possible for those who arrive earlier.
This Therapist Roundtable will draw from the chapter 22 entitled “It fills itself in” from Gendlin’s book, Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy: A Manual of the Experiential Method (1996), pp.276--282. A copy of that chapter will be sent to you after you register.

Focusing on the Focuser adds another dimension of depth to the Focusing process.
Focusing on the way a person focuses is an approach to discerning underlying patterns that keep the transformative possibilities of felt-shift within an unnecessarily restricted range. When deep-seated patterns are more consciously felt, they become raw material for a greater artistry of self-sculpting. This opens the way for further innovations we will begin to explore about bringing variations of Focusing into ever-expanding recesses and dimensions of the being.
While at the University of Chicago, Marty and Gendlin became Focusing partners, alternating doing Focusing sessions with each other every week. In this Highlight, Marty will share some anecdotes from his time with

In this enriching 4-session Zoom series, we will introduce FOAT tools to support those wishing to face life's challenges with greater kindness, strength, and self-compassion. Together we will co-create a supportive community to learn and practice these tools for deepening into our authenticity, presence, and creative wisdom– and identify steps toward growth, healing, and change. There will be opportunities to support our connection and deepen our skills of compassionate presence and listening through small and large group sharing.
Introduction to Focusing and my Basic Focusing Skills Course
Relate to yourself and others with freshness, emotional intelligence, and an open heart.
Focusing offers a way for coming into loving contact with yourself and others. When you are in contact with your body, with your inner sense of something, letting your expressions arise from there, you are accessing insights that are much deeper and vaster than the emotional or mental dimensions alone can offer.
With this foundation, the way in which your life unfolds is experienced as deeply meaningful; sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s difficult, but there is always an undercurrent sense of rightness, of following a natural flow.
The full course will take place: November 28, 2022 to June 12,
Gendlin says our primary job as therapists is to “BE THE INTERACTION” that makes change possible. I have pondered the implications and applications of this statement for many years. Now, amid global uncertainty and upheaval, this radical injunction takes on new meaning, complexity and challenge. What is this way of being that has the power to ignite transformation, even in times of stress?
In this module, we will enter the realm of the “US,” finding respite in the understanding that we are fundamentally and inextricably interconnected--WE ARE INTERACTION! We will explore both the ideas and skills of being the healing interaction and empowering the forces of connectedness and forward movement.

We will briefly touch on and experiment with some basic aspects of Nonviolent Communication, a systematic pathway for recognizing and communicating our feelings, needs, and wishes (in a conflict situation). Combined with the Focusing way of aimless inner listening into what’s initially vague and fuzzy, the NVC process for fruitful communication attains a greater depth.
This practice can release us from stuck places in which both parties might not have felt heard and respected. Instead of pointing fingers, at others in blame, or at ourselves causing shame, this conscious form of communication - clear, honest, and warmhearted - can magically open doors for meeting everybody's needs.
