PROCEDURE FOR RECOMMENDING A STUDENT FOR CERTIFICATION AS A TRAINER, CFP[1] OR FOT[2]
Thank you, Coordinator, for recommending your students for certification!
A student is considered certified by The International Focusing Institute (TIFI) only if they have received their certificate directly through TIFI.
More details can be found by going to the Membership dropdown menu on focusing.org and choosing “Certification.”
1. PRIOR TO CERTIFICATION
When the student begins their course of study, they should join TIFI as a Trainee. This allows them to be connected with TIFI and its international community throughout their training and to partake in member benefits. To learn about membership benefits, check our membership pages on focusing.org or ask us.
2. WHEN THE STUDENT IS READY FOR CERTIFICATION
When the Coordinator determines that the student is ready for certification, the Coordinator writes an email to the TIFI Administrator, Elizabeth Cantor, at [email protected] to tell her the following information. Many Coordinators also copy Catherine Torpey ([email protected]) and/or Rita Kirsch ([email protected]) on this email, though that is optional.
Elizabeth needs this information:
- Names: The name(s) of the student(s) who are ready for certification
- Type of certification: Which certificate type is each person to receive? Details about types of certification can be found on our website here. Check with Elizabeth in the office if you are unsure.
- Optional: More information about the individual(s). This is optional, but we enjoy it because then the person is more than just a name.
3. OUR OFFICE THEN SENDS AN EMAIL WITH INSTRUCTIONS
Elizabeth then sends an email directly to the student, copying the Coordinator. The email will come from [email protected]. Samples of the letters that are sent out by our office can be found on the Coordinator and Trainer Resources page here.
4. THE STUDENTS PAY FOR THEIR CERTIFICATION
Hopefully, the instructions in the letter from Elizabeth will be clear for the student. A sample of the letter which will be sent can be found on the Coordinator & Trainer Resources Page. Look for the "Sample certification congratulations letter." The price of certification depends on the country where the person lives (and there is a special rate if they are indigenous/ Native American/ First Nations). Their computer should automatically detect what country they are in and show the rate for their country (unless they are using a VPN or are travelling outside their country - also, if they qualify for paying the price for indigenous people, they should contact Elizabeth directly). The list of which country is in which group can be found on the Membership page of focusing.org here.
5. RITA MAILS THE CERTIFICATE TO THE COORDINATOR
Once the student has paid for their certification, Rita Kirsch ([email protected]) will prepare and mail the certificate, signed by the Executive Director of TIFI, to the Coordinator. The Coordinator will also sign it and give it to the student. Some Coordinators have arranged with Rita to have their signatures added electronically, so that we can mail the certificate directly to the student. If you are a Coordinator and prefer this, please contact Rita.
[1] Certified Focusing Professional – this can be chosen as the title on the certificate in lieu of “Trainer”
