René and Frans have developed an art of getting lost (completely) in order to find possibilities and courage to help us move toward a truer version of ourselves. In this Focusing Highlight they will share discoveries from working with clients and others of all ages – how seemingly small, fresh entrances can be made when working with inner magnetism/gravity, and how listening in a certain way helps people find new, unexpected perspectives in their lives. Participants will be introduced to the practicable characteristics of Following the smiling thought.
Some experience with Focusing will be helpful though all are welcome to attend.

Gendlin valued Clearing a Space very highly. How about you? Is Clearing a Space (CAS) a standard part of your own Focusing practice, or your teaching of Focusing? Or have you replaced it with something else – maybe an attunement? Join us to share what place CAS has in your Focusing practice – is it essential, optional, irrelevant or something else?

Most of us know that being able to listen in a Focusing way usually requires lots of practice and reflection. Yet, when we speak with others, we often find we have nothing but our habits to guide us. We can’t expect ourselves to automatically be skilled at speaking up, speaking out, speaking to and from our felt sense. Especially when we speak in larger groups, our Focusing skills can disappear! We need a place to practice speaking and some guidance to find a new way.
These Being Focusing Together gatherings will use Gendlin’s little known unpublished manuscript "Fitting In and Pouring Out, and Relating" to help us do just that. We will use our time together to experiment with new patterns and see if we find fresh ways to be Focusing in our group interactions.

This international training program for Focusing-oriented group work came into being as an answer to the needs of many of us at a time when Focusing-oriented connectedness, collaboration and genuine relating are more urgent than ever; a time when cross-cultural, cross-generational and multigeographical gathering is technologically supported as never before. Although Focusing has deeply influenced individual therapy and inner work, its potential contributions to group life remain underexplored.
“Here is a new message... there is a different way forward, a further stage – relating – which we all really want…. it is part of the further development of the human being.”
-Eugene Gendlin from his unpublished manuscript, “Fitting In, Pouring Out and Relating”
