Class will be recorded for all registrants and available for viewing for one month.
A 'hot potato' is an issue that most people don’t want to talk about. It can involve unpleasant or even dangerous consequences for anyone dealing with it.
In a world of growing uncertainty, it is not surprising that our conversations and our thinking, are becoming increasingly polarized. It is becoming more difficult to hold civil conversations—or conversations at all—around ‘hot potato’ topics.
In this webinar, we will use Focusing to unravel some of the complexity for ourselves, for others, and around the issue itself. Our exploration is in two stages:
- First, we will work on bringing awareness to our own personal patterns of handling hot potatoes. Please bring your own hot potato, having thought about how this issue has impacted your life. We will look at how change and uncertainty affect us and our openness to the new.
- Second, we will experiment by choosing a hot potato to consider together, exploring and opening out the complexity, consciously using our Focusing skills. We will look at how and why some hot potato issues become accepted ideas and values over time. Using our Focusing skills, we will pay attention to the “more” of the conversation that is emerging around our hot potato.
There will be a presentation, guided experiences, as well as time for sharing and questions from participants.
All are welcome to attend. Some familiarity with Focusing will be helpful but is not required.
We use Zoom videoconferencing for our online classes. In this webinar format, you will see the presenter and host, but you will not be seen. You will be able to ask questions during the webinar by typing them.
You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred. All registered participants will be sent a link to the video recording approximately two weeks following the class. So if you are unable to attend the live webinar, you will still be able to view it for one month.
