Words can sometimes feel inadequate for carrying onward a still-forming-meaning. Perhaps we use a word too soon and inadvertently cause a stoppage, or cut short a process of discovery that needs more time to unfold.

We may do this out of a sense of urgency, courtesy to our listener, or a desire to stay connected with our Focusing partner or therapist.

To take good care of our process, in this workshop we will experiment with finding good new ways to communicate during various phases of a Focusing interaction. We will spend time reflecting on moments where we needed something more, or something else; formulate ways to re-attune non-verbally; and create a unique repertoire of signs for dyadic focusing partnerships. We will also practice these signs-in-the-making in the group.

When done collaboratively, this meta-communication supports trust and predictability, and hones our capacity to slow down and attune to the finer moments during an interaction.
