If we understand Focusing as the movement between felt-sensing and symbolization, it can be the motor of our creative thinking processes.

In “Thinking Beyond Patterns: Body, Language and Situations”, Gendlin demonstrates thought-ways of how to think in a way that exceeds existing concepts, forms or rules.

Following the thought-ways experientially will provide us a practice of how to think with and from our implicit intricacy. It will enrich our Focusing and TAE (Thinking at the Edge) practice as well as our understanding of Gendlin’s philosophy of the implicit.

If you are interested in using Focusing for thinking, this 4-session course is right for you.

PROGRAM

Each session will be 90 minutes including a breakout for partnerships. An optional 30 min Q&A sequence will follow. The sessions will build on each other as you nurture your own small project.

  • Session #1 - Where to start from? The answer is: from a slot. We will be encouraged to find and go to such places of not-knowing, contradictions and conflict.
  • Session #2 - Strings of words. By having experienced how to create a fan of fans of fresh words from a slot we will understand how it is possible from a philosophical point of view.
  • Session #3 - About instances and instancing: How past events can already be instances of what we are about to create. How our created sayings can be instanced in further sayings.
  • Session #4 - On the way to logical concepts. We will experience how different kinds of crossings will transform our fresh sayings into concepts.
