The TIFI Membership Committee is pleased to offer this series of Focusing Roundtables, designed especially for members of the Institute. Roundtable Topic:

Aging is not lost youth, but a new stage of opportunity and strength.  ― Betty Friedan

Ruth Hirsch discovered Focusing in 1993 and has been sharing it one-one with clients and teaching groups and individuals since 1994. Besides teaching all levels of Focusing, including the art of training others, she has developed courses in Focusing for Bodyworkers and other Somatic Therapists, Deepening your Spirituality with Focusing, Healing the Inner Critic with Focusing, and Deepening your Connection to the Jewish Months with Focusing. For 6 years Ruth also served on the International Leadership Council of The International Focusing Institute.

Ruth's interest in aging began about five years ago following a freak accident resulting in breaking her arm and shoulder. Soon after, she responded as she typically does with challenges: with a combination of research and Focusing. She read a wide variety of books on the subject while simultaneously Focusing on these issues as well as making the issue the subject of a TAE (Thinking at the Edge) process. She has now developed a workshop and presented interest groups on this subject.

She is hosting this Roundtable to share what she has learned and to offer members of TIFI an opportunity to sense into and share their own feelings and experiences about this stage of life.

From here there will be space to sense into next steps, including the possibility of future events to create a supportive space to move forward and enjoy this stage of life more fully, with increased clarity and peace of mind.

A few features of this offering:

  • A sampling of recent research and writing on the subject will be presented to broaden participants' understanding.
  • Guided Focusing exercises to get to know your inner landscape, listen to your unique inner wisdom, and become more aware of your relationship with aging.
  • Sharing your own wisdom and hearing the wisdom of others.
  • This workshop will be experiential, with time for group and partner practice.

Who might be particularly interested in attending this Roundtable?

This Roundtable is intended for members who have basic Focus skills, want to live more consciously, and are interested in exploring their own relationship with aging. Come with an open mind and heart.

CONNECTION>CONVERSATION>COMMUNITY

What to expect from Focusing Rountables:  Each Focusing Roundtable is designed to promote informal peer-to-peer conversation. Rather than acting as expert presenters, the Hosts will serve as conversation moderators to encourage sharing and exploration of the topics from the participants’ own perspectives. All participants’ sharings are welcome and valuable, no matter what level of experience or knowledge you have on the topic. To preserve the nature of informal conversation, the program will be offered live only and no recordings will be available. Registration is limited and on a first-come, first served basis. Participants are encouraged to create follow up opportunities for connection among themselves after the Roundtable.
