Where & When
This last module of our foundational 1st year of FORGE is an exploration of what “Leadership” means to each of us as diverse individuals in diverse communities. Although we all might agree that group facilitation includes qualities such as the ability to inspire, guide and support others, we may find that each of us holds our own unique individual way of embodying that role.
In this module we will focus on the relational and experiential processes of facilitation. We will cultivate the ability to “be” the kind of guiding presence that empowers the group to build trust and cohesion without sacrificing diversity and individuality. This kind of leadership does not depend on control or a position of authority, but on presence, integrity and responsiveness to the group.
We will work on:
• recognizing our own leadership styles and voices
• developing the ability to invoke attitudes of openness and curiosity in times of stress
• practicing ways to support connection and differentiation while avoiding merger or fragmentation
• learning to recognize and invite leadership qualities as they emerge within the group
• making a place for the challenging aspects of group leadership, including conflict, tension, power dynamics and radical uncertainty while communicating across difference
