The TIFI Membership Committee is pleased to offer this series of Focusing Roundtables designed especially for members of the Institute. If you are not a member, please join at https://focusing.org/page/join-or-renew, then return to this page to register. This program will afford members a valuable opportunity to engage in casual peer-to-peer conversation with other members who share Focusing-related interests.
Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. As in Focusing, a major tenet of Coaching is that people are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole, and as such, can find their own answers to moving forward. Most coaches work primarily with the cognitive, what is explicit, what can be discovered through a thoughtful process of powerful questions and answers. Focusing, on the other hand, addresses the implicit, what is not yet known, what is at the edge of what is sensed inwardly.
The demand for speedy results poses a challenge for Focusing-oriented coaches who seek to bring the Focusing attitude of pausing and listening inside into their process.
In this Roundtable we invite you to explore with us what happens when Focusing crosses Coaching and how this crossing might more effectively promote individual or group transformation. This Roundtable will provide the space to dig deep into our curiosity about Focusing and Coaching and sense what might come next. Some questions we might explore together are:
- What does Focusing add to Coaching? And vice versa?
- What happens when we “cross” Focusing with Coaching?
- How do we bring Focusing into our coaching or coaching-like work?
- What challenges have we faced when using Focusing with our coaching or coaching-like clients?
- What interest do we have in creating a network of Focusing-Oriented Coaches?
Other questions may emerge from our mutual exploration during the Roundtable.
Who might be particularly interested in attending this Roundtable? Members who are currently or prospectively working as coaches or in roles that have coaching aspects, as well as anyone curious about this topic.
CONNECTION>CONVERSATION>COMMUNITY
What to expect from Focusing Roundtables: Each Focusing Roundtable is designed to promote informal peer-to-peer conversation. Rather than acting as expert presenters, the Hosts will serve as conversation moderators to encourage sharing and exploration of the topics from the participants’ own perspectives. All participants’ sharings are welcome and valuable, no matter what level of experience or knowledge you have on the topic. To preserve the nature of informal conversation, the program will be offered live only and no recordings will be available. Registration is limited and on a first-come, first served basis. Participants are encouraged to create follow up opportunities for connection among themselves after the Roundtable.
