Overview

Our * LIVE * online courses at Focusing On Borden offer a small unique and interactive group process where participants have an opportunity to share embodied experiences through Focusing practice. The first part of the class is done in a larger group with teaching and experiential exercises. The second half of the class is small breakouts to practice Focusing partnerships. In addition you can practice in-between classes with a focusing partner for the duration of the course.

Course Description

As we move through these uneasy times our bodies search for ways to soothe. Old habits that helped us in the past may reemerge. New habits may begin to form. How do we feel about these self soothing behaviours? Are they good? Are they bad? Are they ugly? When does a habit become an addiction? How can we help ourselves to develop a practice that calms us down, soothing our nervous system?

The Felt Sense Polyvagal Model™ for working with trauma and addiction provides us with answers to these questions. Through daily practices and an embodied process of Focusing, we learn to regulate our autonomic nervous system. Healing and restorative habits evolve over time—one felt shift at a time—as we come together in community with safety and respect.

Each week, we will visit a different quality of Self-leadership, to build our inner resources for self-regulation. There are 8Cs of Self-leadership, one for each week: calm, curiosity, clarity, creativity, compassion, confidence, courage and connection.

By flocking together in community, we can use the good to heal our trauma and release the bad and ugly ‘ways.’

This course is suitable for those familiar with my Felt Sense Polyvagal Model™ and those new to it. Here is a link to an article about my model. Reading my new book will enhance your learning: Treating Trauma and Addiction with The Felt Sense Polyvagal Model: A Bottom Up Approach. This model integrates focusing with our autonomic nervous system responses. The crossing of felt sensing with the body’s neurophysiology deepens our understanding of embodied process. This in turn guides us towards greater capacity for emotion regulation, calming the body in these chaotic times.

The first hour of this course will be recorded and shared with participants. In the second hour we will go into break out rooms for smaller group practices. The breakout will NOT be recorded.
