Class will be recorded for all registrants and available for viewing for one month.

Nikos and Judy will introduce the work of their collaborator, Parvy Palmou, a Focuser and Gestalt therapist who is an international figure in the world of LBGTQI+ affirmative psychotherapy.

Through a combination of individual presentations and dialogue, they will consider some of the following questions:

•    Affirmative Therapy is Focusing-Oriented Therapy, but is the practice of Focusing and Focusing-Oriented Therapy Affirmative?
•    Why might a Focusing practitioner, a Focusing trainer or a Focusing-Oriented therapist need training on Affirmative Therapy?
•    Can a wish to accept a Focusing partner, trainee or client detract from authentic relational contact?
•    How might naivety, over-identification and exotification be disguised as contact?

Parvy will explain the theoretical basis of Affirmative Therapy and its connection to Focusing, Gestalt and Person-Centred therapy. Nikos will present Gendlin’s view regarding the ‘political’ in psychotherapy and all three will explore the expansion of the gender and sexuality spectrum in a hostile political environment, such as has recently developed in the UK.

The Highlight is introductory and suitable for all Focusers.

Format
We use Zoom videoconferencing for our online classes. In this webinar format, you will see the presenter and host, but you will not be seen. You will be able to ask questions during the webinar by typing them. Highlights presenters may at times invite a small number of participants to unmute or join them onscreen during the webinar (optional).

You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred. All registered participants will be sent a link to the video recording approximately two weeks following the class. So if you are unable to attend the live webinar, you will still be able to view it for one month.
