As a Focuser, you know how satisfying it is to truly listen and be listened to. You would love to share this gift with non-Focusers. You know how much people need it with the health crisis, the economic crisis and social distancing. But people may not have the patience for the kind of training it takes to learn Focusing.
So here is what you can do. You can very easily show people how to do Active Listening. You can do it on the phone or FaceTime, Skype, Zoom. It is a very simple format that people can easily follow. Essentially, taking turns: one person speaks, the other listens and summarizes. Of course, it does not have all the richness of Focusing. But people get it easily, and some may be motivated to go deeper into Focusing later.
In this workshop, we will review every aspect of it: How it works, a live demo, as well as practical ideas of how you can reach out to people and share these tools with them.
All are welcome, although this Highlight will be of particular interest to those interested in learning how to share their love of Focusing with non-Focusers. Some experience with Focusing will be helpful but is not required.
We use Zoom videoconferencing for our online classes. In this webinar format, you will see the teacher and host, but you will not be seen. You will be able to ask questions during the webinar by typing them.
You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred. All registered participants will be sent a link to the video recording approximately two weeks following the course. So if you are unable to attend in person, you will still be able to view the class.
Serge Prengel, LMHC, is in private practice in New York City. He has been exploring creative approaches to mindfulness in therapy and in everyday life: how to live with an embodied sense of meaning and purpose. Serge is a graduate of France’s Sorbonne University and HEC School. He is certified in Focusing, Core Energetics and Somatic Experiencing, and also draws from Systems-Centered theory. Serge is the editor of the Focusing Conversations and of Active Pause (http://activepause.com).
Serge is offering this class to support The International Focusing Institute. This live online class is pay-what-you-can. The suggested payment for US residents is $30.
If you need to give less, that's fine, but we do require each participant to give something. Please give extra if you can!
Thank you for supporting the Institute.
PLEASE NOTE: Soon after registering, you will receive a confirmation letter which includes the instructions on how to join the event.
