Have you ever wondered where Focusing ends and meditation begins (or vice versa)? Do you struggle to meditate consistently? Is your meditation difficult to enjoy – or not quite as delicious as you wish? As a long-term meditator and Focuser (and teacher of both), Elizabeth is fascinated by the processes which take us on our inner journeys. Her approach is flexible and inclusive, in a nutshell, uncovering ways to “meditate as you can, not as you can’t”.

Elizabeth also weaves creativity into her meditation. She draws on poetry and colour to help you plunge happily into your inner world. Her recent book “Journeys to the Deep: A Gentle Guide to Mindfulness Meditation” illustrates this approach. Taking time to reflect and muse after a meditation, she suggests ways in which mini-solo-focusing just after meditating can enrich our meditation and our Focusing, and help us to process and absorb the shifts, transitions, and transformations that we experience – but sometimes miss.

The webinar will include guided meditation experiences, presentation, and time for questions and group sharing. These are designed for any level. It is relevant whether you are just setting out, as a Focuser or meditator, or if you are in need of a meditation refresher or wishing to go deeper with an existing practice.

We use Zoom videoconferencing for our online classes. In this webinar format, you will see the presenter and host, but you will not be seen. You will be able to ask questions during the webinar by typing them. Highlights presenters may at times invite a small number of participants to unmute or to join them onscreen during the webinar (optional).

You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred. All registered participants will be sent a link to the video recording approximately two weeks following the class. So if you are unable to attend the live webinar, you will still be able to view it for one month.

Bio

Elizabeth English draws on over four decades of daily meditation practice, and two decades of Focusing – and is a teacher of both. She also weaves in other approaches, including Nonviolent Communication and Somatic Experiencing (trauma therapy). Her understanding is enriched by her doctoral research in Sanskrit meditation texts, her ordination within a western Buddhist tradition and her current post teaching secular mindfulness meditation at Cambridge University. She spends much of her time singing and writing. Her first ‘gentle guide’ to meditation was published this year: Journeys to the Deep: A Gentle Guide to Mindfulness Meditation. She lives in Cambridge (UK) with her cocker spaniel, Cherub. www.elizabethenglish.life
