A highly experiential, interactive workshop facilitated by Lucy Bowers
It is my hope to provide the why, the how, the when, and the where
Focusing and Children needs to be encouraged and nurtured.
Focusing nurtures the sense of direction needed to make decisions, resolve conflict, overcome emotional obstacles to learning, and avoid outcomes of bullying. Lucy will introduce her influencers over the past 38 years in this work as she transitioned from being a primary teacher in the school system to being a teacher of Focusing for children and adults of all ages.
In this workshop, participants will:
- Learn the benefits of Focusing as an effective tool in our interaction with children.
- Discover how easy Focusing is for children to learn and integrate into their development, enabling their growth emotionally, intellectually, socially, physically, and spiritually.
- Be introduced to the value Lucy places on using children’s books (with students of all ages) and some examples of such.
There will be a demonstration and also time for questions and discussion.
Supplies needed: paper, markers, and/or pastels or crayons
All are welcome to attend. No previous experience with Focusing is required. Attending the workshop live is encouraged as there will be exercises in breakout rooms. All registrants will receive a link to view the recording afterwards (breakout rooms are not recorded).
We use Zoom videoconferencing for our online classes. The class will be held in meeting format so that all participants can see the presenter and each other. You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred as participation in breakout rooms will be limited.
About Your Facilitator
Lucy Bowers is an Ontario certified elementary school teacher retired from the Toronto Board of Education who describes Focusing as a powerful and effective way to deal with overwhelming emotions and blocks to living in a fully alive manner. She first learned Focusing in 1984 from Ed McMahon, PhD and Peter Campbell, PhD as a process called Bio-Spirituality. This became a practice in her personal life for growth and healing. Since then, Lucy has become a pioneer in using Focusing to help children learn that the real teacher is within each of them, which has given children of all ages confidence and allowed self-esteem to grow. She adapted Focusing to be used in primary classrooms with an activity that the children fondly named "Elevator Rides". It has been her privilege to present her work throughout Canada and internationally to teachers, parents, grandparents, social workers, etc. Lucy is a Certifying Coordinator and a Certified Focusing trainer with The International Focusing Institute.
