There is a lot of upheaval and uncertainty within many countries. The geopolitical situation is more unstable than it has been in a long time. And, globally, the threat of the climate catastrophe looms large. We cannot help but be affected by all of this.

How do we regain a sense of agency when so much of what is happening is beyond our control?

In this group, we are going to explore together how these situations manifest bodily in our emerging self. We are going to do this within a mindful and proactive perspective.

That is, we will proceed slowly, containing the urge to talk about the issues themselves and focus on our bodily sensations and felt experience. Our hope is that, as we embrace and contain difficult feelings, we can sense into our innate capacity for resilience and agency.

This is the alchemy of mindful, embodied engagement: the possibility of something big emerging out of paying attention to the subtleties of our embodied experience.

The group process draws from the Proactive Mindfulness approach developed by Merete Holm Brantbjerg and Serge Prengel, based on Merete’s pioneering work in Relational Trauma Therapy.

The group is suitable for people who have experience in Proactive Mindfulness as well as people who don’t. We will not be practicing Focusing, but this is done in a spirit that is congenial with Focusing.
