The recent International Focusing Conference was wonderful. What made it even better is that there were some difficult moments about dealing with the conflicts in the world.
Why is that more beautiful? Remember what Leonard Cohen sang about the crack in the Liberty Bell? Through the crack comes the light.
Through the difficult moments comes the possibility of finding more light. Building a better sense of who we are as people and as a community.
In this workshop, we will explore welcoming the complexities of the divergences of opinions and feelings around topics that are difficult to talk about, like politics in polarized countries, or conflicts like Israel and Gaza and Palestine.
Of course, there's no way in the world that we cover such a topic in one workshop. So this is not a how-to. This involves coming into presence together, sensing into how we can shift how we approach such discussions. Sensing into an approach that embodies Rumi's "guest house," welcoming differences and wanting learn from them.
Together, we are starting to envision the possibility of building a new way of dealing with intense issues that benefits from all that Focusing has to offer.
Facilitated by Serge Prengel and Katarzyna Fiorita.
- Serge Prengel is a Focusing-oriented therapist and developer of Proactive Mindfulness.
