Bachelard’s The Poetics of Space ask us to look at “how we inhabit our vital space…how we take root, day after day, in our house, ‘our corner of the world’.”

Rooted in eco- and positive psychology, this workshop perches on the skin-thin edge of our outer and inner spaces. “Inhabit” hosts “habit”: our habitual ways of seeing and being. In the old word-roots of “habit” we find a circular meaning, an act of gathering that includes receiving and giving.

During this class, participants will be guided through an exploration of the “living spaces” in your home that replenish and inspire you for your work in the world outside your door.

Participants will have the opportunity to interact with Gillian and the other participants as a small group. A large portion of the class will be comprised of experiential exercises: brief Focusing sessions in three different spaces in your dwelling. (The exercises are designed for Focusing pairs via Zoom breakout rooms, so if possible, please plan to attend using a portable device such as your laptop, tablet, or smartphone).

Class size is limited.

Format

The video link is an easy to use format called Zoom. You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred. The class will be held in meeting format so that all participants will see the presenter and each other. (There is an option to turn off your video if you prefer and technical instructions will be given at the class start).

NOTE: Because of the interactive nature of this workshop, please plan to attend live. A recording of the class will be provided only to those who attend in person, for review. This class is best suited for those with at least some experience with Focusing, though all are welcome.
