What did Gendlin mean when he said that our main job as helpers is to "Be the interaction that makes it better"?

In this workshop, Charlotte will explore the interaction that carries someone forward and facilitates the little steps of change in both the person and in the dyad.

Central to Gene’s philosophy is that we are interaction, and that we need to be the kind of interaction that carries the Focuser/client forward. There are many kinds of interaction that can achieve this. In Focusing we are very familiar with ‘going inside’ mode. However, many kinds of other interactions may be needed, and these come when we bring Focusing seamlessly into the fluid dynamic of a healing conversation, something Gene called ‘dipping in’. How do we tune into and be the kind of interaction that is needed within this more complex and improvisational relationship?

Charlotte will use didactic teaching, videos of her own clinical sessions as well as of Eugene Gendlin from her personal collection -- including a clip of Gendlin on The Theory of FOT (Focusing-Oriented Therapy) where the 'Be the interaction' quote comes from. Participants will also have the opportunity to share in dyads together.

All are welcome to attend.

Format
We use Zoom videoconferencing for our online classes. The session will be held in meeting format so that all participants can see the presenters and each other. You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred as participation in breakout rooms will be limited.

All registrants (whether or not you attend live) can view the recording for one month. Breakout rooms are not recorded.

These classes will be a short refresher on the key fundamentals of using Focusing in your clinical practice, whatever kind of healer you are.
