What was the influence of Carl Rogers on Eugene Gendlin? What was the influence of Eugene Gendlin on Carl Rogers? Could the work of either have developed as it did without the other? Is there any real difference between Focusing-oriented therapy and person-centred therapy?
Gendlin and Rogers’ collaboration began in 1952 when Gendlin, then a 25-year-old PhD student, joined the research team of the Counseling Center at the University of Chicago at Rogers’ invitation. Their very fruitful collaboration ended abruptly and bitterly in Wisconsin in 1963 and both went on to develop community work in completely separate spheres. The followers of each have often tended to magnify the achievement of one at the expense of the other, thus distorting the legacy of both.
Judy and Nikos have taught and studied the work of Rogers and Gendlin (Judy especially Rogers and Nikos especially Gendlin) over many years and will give an introduction to what Gendlin really owes to Rogers and what Rogers really owes to Gendlin.
Open to all.
Format
We use Zoom videoconferencing for our online classes. In this webinar format, you will see the presenter and host, but you will not be seen. You will be able to ask questions during the webinar by typing them. Highlights presenters may at times invite a small number of participants to unmute or join them onscreen during the webinar (optional).
You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred. All registered participants will be sent a link to the video recording approximately two weeks following the class. So if you are unable to attend the live webinar, you will still be able to view it for one month.
