Find a Focusing Professional - Rob Foxcroft

I live in Glasgow (Scotland) and my first profession is music. I teach harmony, composition, musical analysis, piano, cello and singing to all age-groups. I'm strongly committed to the principles of musicianship training developed by Kodaly Zoltan. Very early in my teaching career, I came to believe that human beings can learn and grow and relate to one another in ways that are not essentially abusive and authoritarian, but respectful, benevolent and free. I have long studied the writings of Carl Rogers. A few years ago I was able to explore Carl’s person-centred way of being with Brian Thorne and his colleagues, and received a Diploma in Spiritual Accompaniment from the Norwich Centre. In March 1988 I began to study focusing, listening and dreamwork with Gene Gendlin and his colleagues. I became a Focusing Coordinator. In 2013-14, I acted as President of the International Focusing Institute during several stormy months when the worldwide community was anxious and uncertain of its future. I write poems and prose when when some inner pressure obliges me to set down what is moving in my heart. I like to write; and am never happy with what I have written. I like to walk in the hills or by the sea. I tend my garden. I like food. I love my students. I’m happiest at home with my family. The day my son was born began the happiest phase of my life. If I were to take a motto for my life, it could only be the words of Leila Berg: 'All my life I have sought to empower children.'
