Workshop of Prof. Akira Ikemi in July in Warsaw, Poland

Innovations in Focusing: Theory, Research and Practice

Your Hosts

Joanna Kaczmarek, Polish Focusing Institute at Intra Centre for Psychological Help and Education, Warsaw, Poland

Where & When

In this comprehensive three-day workshop, Professor Akira Ikemi will showcase his contributions to both the theory and practice of Focusing. He will elucidate the practical importance of distinguishing between „Focusing-alpha” and „Focusing-beta,” where the former refers to the „crucial inner act” of Focusing, and the latter pertains to the methodologies employed in teaching this „inner act”.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in original experiential exercises, such as „Crossing with Animals,” to deepen their understanding of Focusing-alpha. Furthermore, participants will be introduced to the early research that was vital in the development of Focusing using the Experiencing Scale (EXP Scale). The EXP Checklist that Akira developed to advance the EXP Scale will also be introduced.

The workshop will also cover „The Experiencing Model” — his psychotherapy theory — and introduce „Asian Focusing Methods”—practices he developed to integrate Mindfulness with Focusing, blending Far Eastern and Western thought.
