Catherine originally learned Focusing in the Bio-Spiritual tradition, and she was certified by Robert Lee who teaches Domain Focusing. Over the years and in her role as Executive Director of TIFI, she has also had the opportunity to take classes and experience Focusing with many different teachers who take a variety of approaches to Focusing. Her approach to teaching Focusing is informed by Wholebody Focusing, Inner Relationship Focusing, Thinking at the Edge, and other applications of the Felt Sense.
In offering this introductory class, Catherine hopes participants will gain an appreciation for the many ways to teach (and learn) Focusing, and views her contribution as one flower in a big garden which includes trees, flowers, fruits and tubers.
This Highlight webinar is designed as an overview for those who know little or nothing about Focusing, though all are warmly welcome to attend, no matter your level of experience. If you have been wanting to introduce Focusing to a friend, this class would make a perfect holiday gift!
The video link will be to an easy to use website called Zoom. In this webinar format, you will see the teachers and host, but you will not be seen. You will be able to ask questions during the webinar by typing them.
You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred. All registered participants will be sent a link to the video recording approximately two weeks following the course. So if you are unable to attend in person, you will still be able to view the class.
Catherine Torpey learned Focusing in 1996 from her spiritual director and it immediately made a positive difference in her life. She was later certified by The International Focusing Institute and has taught Focusing to small groups on a number of occasions. She has been the Executive Director of TIFI since 2014, coming to us after a career in the non-profit world, in teaching and in ministry (in the Unitarian Universalist tradition).
